Summary

Page-based memory tiering moves hot pages to fast memory tiers and cold pages to slower, larger tiers, but many pages contain a mixture of hot and cold objects. ObjecTier improves fast-tier utilization by using application-level object knowledge to cluster hot and cold objects across pages before an underlying memory-tiering system makes page-placement decisions.

The framework is designed to work with existing page-based tiering systems without requiring those systems to change.
